Google has been making plans to roll out their latest Android OS even before the current version has been rolled out to all the mobile devices. It seems that Verizon is one of the last to roll out Android 4.3 to my Galaxy S3. As I wait for the next great software update, word has been leaked that KitKat will begin to roll out to devices next year. And one of those devices will be my Galaxy S3. This in and of itself is interesting news because I have not seen more than a single major update to the OS on my smartphones in the past from Verizon. So getting 3 major updates before my 2 year contract expires is fantastic news. And with that, there are going to be a number of new features that my aging smartphone will gain. All of this is far better news for owners of smartphones in general and Samsung Galaxy owners in particular. This prolongs the life of smartphones much in the same way that Apple has been doing for year.
But, the really great news is that I will be able to get Android 4.4. Something to look forward to while I am still waiting for Verizon to release Android 4.3 for my phone in the coming weeks. At the moment, it looks like I will be seeing Android 4.4 in the March – April time period which is not that far off. Verizon will probably make it more like May with the delay because of testing. All of this information is coming from iTechAddict and we are showing that here.
This is a clear indication that the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2 will be getting the KitKat update in the March – April time frame. Since this is showing the GT-I9300 version (non-LTE) of the Galaxy S3, we are assuming that the GT-i9305 (LTE) version as getting the KitKat update as well. All of this is the expected roll out to be happening next year so that owners of older Samsung Galaxy mobile devices can enjoy the same great features as new mobile device owners. There are a number of enhancements that we can look forward to.
- Improved interface
- Faster Multitasking
- New Phone App
- ChromeCast supprt
- And much more at KitKat site
By providing 3 major upgrades to the Galaxy S3, Samsung and the Android OS have now raised the bar for providing updates to prolong the life of their flagship series of smartphones. While the Galaxy S3 is now getting the latest version of the Android OS *4.3), owners can now look forward to the next version next year. This is great news.
