With only a few weeks to go before we hit 2013 and the start of the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) now is the time for invitations and rumors to trickle out. Samsung recently began a teaser video about “Something New” that will be coming in January and promptly whipped the Android fans into a frenzy. CES is an event which highlights new and upcoming electronic products. Many top devices, like the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX, have been unveiled at CES in the past, so it was natural to assume the teaser video was about the Galaxy S4 with CES being on the horizon. While we were not convinced that the something new would be the follow-up to the Galaxy S3, it seems that has now been made clear — Galaxy S4 will not be coming to Las Vegas in January. This confirmation comes by way of CNET, who are reporting based on “people familiar with the company’s plans.” Simply put, if you were holding out on buying a Galaxy S3 because you had hopes of an S4 coming soon, you may want to rethink that purchase strategy.
Samsung has yet to offer anything solid as to when the Galaxy S4 may be unveiled. And while Mobile World Congress in February may be a possibility, we suspect that Samsung will make the announcement at an event of their own.
For those wondering what we may see from Samsung at CES, there may be some disappointing news for those waiting for something mobile, or Android. According to that same source, Samsung probably will not have any “major” mobile news at CES and instead will announce “a number of electronic products, heavily focused on televisions.” Although many Samsung fans believe that the possible announcements for Samsung at CES 2013 will be:
- The rumored 7-inch Galaxy Note
- A Galaxy Tab 3 series
- Galaxy S III with HD display
- Galaxy Note II without S Pen
The Samsung Galaxy S line-up was announced back in 2010. The line-up from Samsung has jumped into being on of the biggest and best selling mobile device lines in the world. The Galaxy S and S2 line-up were renamed for each US carrier, which is normal for these carriers. But when Samsung brought out the Galaxy S3 this summer, they brought it to five of the major carriers all under the same name. The device is also available on MetroPCS now, making it the sixth carrier in the US to carry the device. So whether it’s at CES, Mobile World Congress or Samsung’s own event, we expect the Galaxy S4 to take our breath away.
The Galaxy S4 is rumoured to feature:
- 13-megapixel camera
- 4.99-inch, Unbreakable Screen
- Quad-core processor
If those specifications prove to be true, you can see why this device is so anticipated.
It makes sense that Samsung wouldn’t want to announce the next phone in the Galaxy line-up so soon, as the Galaxy S3, that was released in May, is still a hot commodity and the Galaxy Note 2 was recently released.
